GLOBE® is a worldwide hands-on, primary and secondary school-based education and science program. GLOBE® provides the opportunity to learn by:
Taking scientifically valid measurements in the fields of atmosphere, hydrology, soils, and land cover/phenology - depending upon their local curricula
Reporting their data through the Internet
Creating maps and graphs on the free interactive Web site to analyze data sets
Collaborating with scientists and other GLOBE students around the world
GLOBE is a partnership between the United States and over 102 other countries. Over a million primary and secondary students in more than 12,000 schools have taken part in the program and reported over 9.5 million measurements. And those numbers are growing!
In addition to students, other interested parties are invited to participate in GLOBE® by collecting and reporting data to the GLOBE® database. This joint effort will help increase our knowledge and improve our understanding of the environment. If you are interesting in participating in GLOBE® and helping to collect environmental data, you will need to be trained in proper methods for taking measurements.
Information on how to participate is available outside the US by contacting your GLOBE® country point of contact, found on the GLOBE® Web site at Globe.gov, and in the US by emailing the GLOBE® Help Desk at firstname.lastname@example.org. If there is sufficient interest from weather station operators, special training may be arranged.
"GLOBE® is the quintessentially ideal program for involving kids in science,"
